The Penrose Stool was inspired by the functionality of lightweight cafe stools. A small triangular bracket gives structure while leaving space underneath so that they can be stacked in pairs. The idea for the simple internal triangle brackets came from a pile of construction trash (image 4).

The triangles inspired the stool's moniker, a reference to Roger Penrose, mathematician and inventor of the Penrose triangle illusion. Penrose also sounds like a pleasant old english person who would have you in for tea, and pulls out some small stools for your company.

To balance weight and strength, Douglas Fir is used for the stocked inventory, though custom wood species and finishes are available.
